This season I have hand-picked a range of shirt dresses to dress up and dress down – from abstract prints to stripes with metallic details, there’s something for your spring summer wardrobe and beyond. Here are a few thoughts on why shirt dresses are magic (not literally, but they are very special):
YOU CAN WEAR THEM OPEN
Our new Culture collection from Denmark is proving popular! This beautiful, flattering Neva Dress has a micro stripe in blue and white with metallic silver thread running through it – divine worn open over shorts and t-shirts or closed with your favourite simple jewellery. You are especially loving the 3/4 length sleeves with cotton ruffles. (Culture, Neva dress, £69) Also totally fabulous paired with bare legs and a sparkly white trainer (see similar here: Serafini)
PERFECT FOR WORK
With it’s fabulous lime green dot and subtle binding detail at the cuff, this navy blue Nuailish Dress from Numph (Nümph, Nuailish Dress, £89) is pretty good for work (and those all important zoom calls during Lockdown). This shirt dress only has buttons from the waist up, but can still be layered underneath with a white tee or layered over the top with a favourite knit this season. Wear with block-heeled ankle boots and skin-toned tights and see how many people ask you where you got this dress from (clearly, you should tell them about us!). Add simple silver jewellery to suit your mood. (Tutti & Co, Hue Ring, £32)
PERFECT FOR PLAY
This Culture Nala broderie anglaise dress in sky blue has got a really nostalgic, romantic feel to it. (Culture, Nala Dress, £79) The gently gathered cuff makes it feminine and the 100% cotton cool blue tone is great with sun-kissed skin. Pair with those sparkly bright white trainers again and silvery metallic accessories for a pretty, vintage feel. Washes brilliantly on a cool cotton wash – wear all summer!
GET ECO-CREDENTIALS (AND WEAR ALL YEAR)
This fabulous military style olive green shirt dress has brilliant eco-credentials (it’s made using Eco Vera Viscose and recycled polyester) and can be worn all year round with some clever accessories and layers. (mbyM Aspen Dress, £109) In the warmer months team with light pinks, neutrals and white like this splendid Cropped Denim Jacket from fellow Danish Brand, Culture. (Culture, Noelle Jacket, £83.50) Come the autumn, add tights and boots and your favourite leather jacket.
