Vilagallo Selina Jacket

As the countdown begins, here are our Christmas outfit ideas for the whole festive season – from carol concerts in draughty churches to cosy brunches. First up, here are our tips for staying stylish, yet comfortable over the festive season…

Layer up

At this time of year – whilst the temperature outside may be wintery – we are in and out of overheated shops, stood over a stove, or snuggled up by the fire, making layers (and the ability to remove them!) essential. Rosemunde are perfect for this as their natural fibres will ensure you don’t overheat; allowing you to layer up different colours, prints and textures with their silk cotton vests and cashmere mix cardigans.

Think all-day comfort

There is nothing that is guaranteed to ruin your day more than a too tight waistband or ill-fitting dress. Chances are you’ll be wearing your Christmas Day outfit for a good 8-10 hours; if you’ve got children, or grandchildren you’ll be chasing around after them, busying yourself in the kitchen… comfort is key! Look for pieces that have a bit of stretch so you don’t feel restricted, and leave yourself enough room for pud… it is Christmas after all!

Think beyond the festive season

It’s all very well buying that novelty Christmas jumper but we guarantee that come Boxing Day the shine will definitely have worn off. The key to a festive look that you’re going to get more than a week’s wear out of each year –  is to look for jewel colours, or design with a hint of sparkle – like our Ichi Sparkle Jumper (£45).

Invest in outerwear

Your winter coat should feel like the icing on the (Christmas) cake when it comes to your festive wardrobe. Chances are you will be wearing it everyday and at some events – ice skating, Christmas markets, carol concerts – you might not take it off so make sure it isn’t a ‘practical after-thought’. See our edit of stand out statement coats and blazers below that will finish your outfit, beautifully.

Showstopper dresses

This intricate lace overlay in beautiful jewel purple would be perfect for New Year’s Eve, or more formal dos this Christmas – Abbi dress, Baum und Pferdgarten, £189

We love the versatility of this navy 60s style swing dress – pair with statement earrings or bright accessories for evening and  thick tights and boots for a more dresses down day look – Bine Dress, 2nd Day – Day Birger et Mikkelsen, £140

‘Christmas in a dress’ is the only way to describe this tunic style stunner from Patrizia Pepe – with gold stud embellishment and flattering sheer sleeves, this berry hue will flatter any skin tone – Sparkles dress, Patrizia Pepe, £179 (also available in black)

Versatile separates

Our on-trend animal print co-ord set has been a stand-out bestseller this season – wear together with heels and a bold lip for a statement look, then separate them out and wear with neutrals for a more casual nod to a trend that is set to be just as strong come the new year – Juliet Cleo print top (£69) and trousers (£99), MBYM

The wide, elasticated waistband on these blue camo print trousers is the pinnacle of comfort, yet the tapered leg keeps them on the right side of ‘loungewear’ – paired with the matching top, they’re a fab option for stylish, at-home comfort – Japera top (£99) and trousers (£99), Baum und Pferdgarten

Either of these skirts would be the workhorse of your festive wardrobe. Worn with a silk cami and blazer for evening, then luxury statement knit and trainers, or ballet flats by day. When you want to feel feminine yet a dress feels too formal, these are the perfect solution – Flouncy shimmer skirt, 2nd Day – Day Birger et Mikkelsen, £170; Shirley skirt, Minimum DK, £50

If you’re looking for a top to go with your failsafe black trousers or skirt, or even smart denim – these two would be ideal. The sheer Moira blouse is a nod to the festive season with its red pussy bow, while the delicate lace blouse from Rosemunde would look beautiful layered under one of their cosy cashmere cardigans – Moira blouse, Baum und Pferdgarten, £189; Lace blouse, Rosemunde, £79
